In a major and long-overdue admission, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) has formally acknowledged that Khalistani extremists are operating from Canadian soil—collecting funds, radicalizing youth, and promoting violence in India. As confirmed by multiple outlets including ANI, Jagran, and News18, this marks a turning point in how this growing threat is perceived globally. The report is at the link below:- https://www.canada.ca/en/security-intelligence-service/corporate/publications/csis-public-report-2024/intelligence-operations.html#moc10
It is now evident that the 2020–21 farmers’ protest was not an organic uprising, but a protest based on a false narrative created by vested interests to hoodwink the gullible farmers—many of whom fell into the trap laid by Khalistani elements, powerful arhtiyas, and a few opportunistic political parties. Under the smokescreen of “solidarity,” these groups raised funds in Canada and abroad, which were then funneled to fuel unrest and engineer anarchy in Punjab.
Worryingly, the same extremist networks are now glorifying the brutal murder of a social media influencer in Punjab. The accused are being celebrated as heroes, and fresh fundraising campaigns are already underway in their name. This dangerous cocktail of radicalism and vigilantism must be crushed without delay.
Canada too must introspect. Its much-celebrated “freedom of speech” is being blatantly misused by these elements to openly propagate hatred and secessionist ideologies on Canadian soil. Hate parades, pro-Khalistan banners, glorification of terrorists, and public threats against Indian interests have no place in a civilized democracy. Free speech cannot be a license for spreading venom and legitimizing violence.
Fortunately, with Trudeau’s credibility eroding and Jagmeet Singh politically cornered, a window has opened for New Delhi and Ottawa to reset ties. As I had previously argued in my essays on Substack, this new chapter could be built on trust, intelligence cooperation, and mutual respect. The invitation extended to Prime Minister Modi to attend the G7 Summit by Mark Carney is one such positive signal.
But intent must be backed by action.
Canada now faces a critical test: will it allow extremists to hijack its democratic values, or will it act firmly to shut down terror funding and propaganda masquerading as activism?
