Himachal Governor Asks NCC to take up Adventure Sports in the state

Kokje, Himachal Governor has stressed upon the need to expand the activities of NCC upto the university level and said that there was also a need to extend these activities all over the State. There was a great scope in adventure sports such as skiing and trekking and NCC should coordinate at all India level to take up these activities in State, he added. He was “at home” at Raj Bhawan today to the NCC cadets and officers who had participated in the Republic Day Parade at New Delhi and had excelled in various activities. Mementos and cash prize of Rs 1000 each were also presented to them.

The Governor said that NCC not only inculcated a spirit of National Unity and Integrity but also promoted different cultures among the youth. He said that there was need to spread the message of NCC among the youth particularly in rural areas of the State.

Appreciating the activities of NCC in the State, Shri Kokje said that the cadets had brought laurels to the State at national level and now they should show their talents at international level.

He also appreciated the contribution of Brig. D.C. Katoch, Deputy Director General (DDG) of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and Chandigarh for taking various initiatives in the State .

Brig. D.C. Katoch, DDG said that there was a strength of 1.10 lakh cadets in four States/UT and NCC coverage was being provided to 475 schools and 960 colleges in the region. He said that the participation of girl cadets in Himachal was the highest in the country and there was a proposal to introduce NCC in remaining districts of Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur. He also requested the State Government to clear all the pending proposals of NCC so that activities could be started on large scale in the State.

Cash prize of Rs 5000 was presented to Sonia Thakur, who was adjudged the Best-Cadet at National level.

Brig. D.C. Katoch also presented a memento to the Governor.

Lt. General (Rtd), B.S. Thakur, Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission, Dr. Jagmohan Singh and Dr. Anil Wilson, Vice-Chancellors, Shri J.P. Singh, Secretary to the Governor and Senior Officers of NCC were also present on the occasion.
