Himachal Government To Purchase Cow Dung

Dharamshala: Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Prof. Chandra Kumar announced that the state government will initiate the purchase of cow dung from cattle herders at the rate of Rs 2 per kg starting from January 1st, fulfilling an election guarantee.

The minister shared this information during a public meeting in Nagrota Suriyan of the Jwali assembly constituency of Kangra district on Thursday.

Minister Chandra Kumar outlined the government’s plan to transform cow dung into organic fertilizer, which will be made available to farmers through the government undertaking HIMFED.

This initiative aims to promote organic farming by providing farmers with an organic alternative for their crops. Additionally, the organic fertilizer produced from cow dung will be utilized in the farms of the Agriculture and Horticulture Department in the state.

To further incentivize organic farming, the state government plans to identify farmers who cultivate crops using organic fertilizers and purchase their produce at higher prices. This step is expected to encourage more farmers to adopt organic farming practices.

Moreover, the Agriculture Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring the availability and sale of this organic fertilizer in horticulture and apple-dominated areas through the Agriculture and Horticulture Department. This strategic move aims to motivate people in these regions to embrace organic farming methods, fostering sustainable agricultural practices in Himachal Pradesh
