Dharamshala: To bring out the rich past of Jammu & Kashmir and its contribution in shaping the harmonious existence of divergent religious thought and philosophical dialectics in India, the Kangra Central University has decided to introduce a course on Jammu & Kashmir Studies from the upcoming new academic session.
Speaking at the Annual Convocation function of the university here Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Kuldip Chand Agnihotri said “For the new academic session a course on Jammu & Kashmir Studies and Yoga has been introduced. Yoga studies will be taught in Sanskrit medium as the ancient literature of it is available in this language only.”
At its 5th Convocation the university honoured and awarded 32 toppers with Gold Medals from post graduate courses in Arts, Science and Business Administrations at a simple but impressive function held here.
On the 35 research scholars were awarded Ph.D degrees. Degrees were also given to 758 post graduate students, 27 graduate students and 14 diploma students at the annual convocation.
Former union minister Shanta Kumar, the chief guest on the occasion, awarded the scholars and students with their degrees and medal.
Speaking at the function Kumar stressed the need for quality education, “Life is full of ordeals and one has to face all hurdles boldly, only then can one achieve his or her aims,” he said.
He also expressed his concern for the increasing suicide rate among students and the mushrooming of several universities where the education standards were questionable.
Chancellor Harmohinder Singh Bedi said that India was a reservoir of ancient knowledge which has found recognition the world over. “There was a need to learn from our ancient educational systems,” he said.
Vice-chancellor Agnihotri also informed that the university would soon have its own campus. “The Detailed Project Report has been prepared and submitted to central government, he said.
