Dharmashala: “Effective steps will be taken to encourage Kangra painting and the youth would be encouraged to associate with it,” Rakesh Prajapati, district magistrate said after inaugurating a 3 day Kangra painting exhibition at Mount View Complex in Mcleodganj here on Saturday.
Kangra paintings is a heritage art and it still gives an identity of the region, said Prajapati
He added that in Kangra paintings one can have a glimpse of the ancient culture and for its protection, Kangra Art Promotion Society is doing better work. The society is promoting young generation towards Kangra Paintings.
The district administration will provide all possible assistance for the protection of Kangra painting, he said.
Schools of this delicate miniature painting style, a rare pictorial art of the valley, were patronised by many rulers of Kangra. .
The main centres of these paintings from the 17th to 19th century were at Guler, Basohli, Chamba, Nurpur, Bilaspur and Kangra, but later they spread to Mandi, Suket, Kulu, Arki, Nalagarh and Tehri Garhwal. Collectively known as Pahari school of paintings, many of the masterpieces of the paintings adorn the art galleries of famous museums around the world.
