Shimla / Narkanda: A storm, with furious winds blowing, in the early hours today (9.6.2.016), felled a huge blue pine tree that landed on a camp site, killing two tourists on the spot and leaving at least one person seriously injured in the tent that they were sleeping in.
Kumarsain police station officer Virochan Negi rushed to the site to supervise rescue and relief. Gagan Kumar (32), who was injured in the nature calamity accident, has been rushed to IGMC, Hospital, Shimla for emergency treatment.
Police sources state that the two dead have been identified as Ashok Siddu (45) and Rajest Kumar (32), residents of Punjab and are believed to have been working with the education department of Punjab.
The nature camp, close to Narkanda, has been set up by the Forest Department as part of its eco-tourism venture.
Located in grassy meadow, amidst a cedar, spruce and blue pine forest, with panoramic views of snowy himalayan ranges on display, the camp is a very popular stopover for summer campers and tourists.
