Kullu: Digging out a leaf from the country’s long history about the struggle for freedom, the Kullu based organisation – Brahmin Janklayan Sabha paid rich tributes to Yuvraj Pratap Singh, an unsung freedom fighter who was sentenced to death by colonial British rulers on 3rd August, 1857.
Founder member of the Sabha, Manmohan Gautam raised a demand for building a memorial to the unsung hero at Nature Park Mohal, Kullu.
“All of us have been taught about the heroic deeds of Mangal Pandey during India’s first war of Independence and the sacrifices he made in 1857 but there is practically no information in public domain about the Himachali martyr Yuvraj Pratap Singh either in history or otherwise, ” he said.
“When we did our research, we came across the name of Yuvraj Pratap Singh from Kullu who was sentenced to death by the British rulers on August 3, 1857 at Dharmshala. This memorable contribution by a Kullvi freedom fighter should be known to all, especially the youth from the district and that’s why the Brahmin Jankalyan Sabha Kullu wants a monument in the name of martyr to be built,” said Manmohan Gautam.
Speaking at the function held at Badah, chief guest Teja Singh Negi, a retired scientist said, “a martyr during the times of the 1857 revolt is a contribution that the entire state needs to be proud of. A memorial for Yuvraj Pratap Singh would be a befitting tribute to the unsung freedom fighter from Kullu.”
Negi appreciated the efforts of the sabha in tracing out the history of the unsung hero of 1857 revolt.
