Dharamshala: Acting on a tip-off, a Vigilance team apprehended a Creta car with a Punjab registration under the jurisdiction of Rakkad Police Station in Kangra district last evening. The vehicle was occupied by two professors from different universities in Punjab—one resident of Faridkot and another, a resident of Barnala. During the search, the team recovered cash amounting to Rs 3.5 lakh from the duo.
During initial questioning, neither professor could provide a satisfactory explanation for the large sum of money found in their possession.
This operation follows a recent inspection at the Institute of Pharmaceutical and Research University in the Palampur area, where both professors had been appointed by the Pharmacy Council of India. Authorities suspect that the cash might be linked to undue advantages or corrupt practices associated with their appointments or activities at the institution.
In light of these suspicions, the Vigilance Department has filed a case against the two professors at the Dharamshala Police Station under Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are working to uncover the full extent of the alleged corruption
