Nauni (Solan): A 12-member contingent of Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni reached Germany on Wednesday on an International Training programme at Kompetenzzentrum Obstbau Bodensee(KOB). The contingent includes 10 undergraduate students and two faculty members of the university.
The students will be part of a 21-day academic excursion programme at the research institute for fruit production. They will get comprehensive exposure to the latest agricultural technologies and advancements in Germany, specifically focussing on the storage of horticultural products and forestry management.
The students will engage in practical exercises, workshops and interactive sessions led by the experts of the research institute. Additionally, Dr. Inder Dev and Dr. Subhash Verma are also attending a 10-day overseas training at KOB for agronomy and entomology respectively. This visit will also be used to explore research collaborations between the university and KOB to foster future connections between the two institutes.
A total of 10 students, three each from the Horticulture and Forestry disciplines covering two colleges from the main campus and four students from the University’s constituent college at Neri have been selected for the programme based on their academic performances.
The selected students- Simran Negi, Anchal Choudhary and Parul Kashyap represent the College of Horticulture, Nauni while Priyanshi Rana, Parul Rana and Simran Thakur are from the College of Forestry on the main campus. Kritika Kanwar, Yukti Pundir, Simran Sagroli and Nivedita Chauhan represent the College of Horticulture and Forestry, Neri in Hamirpur district.
Professor Rajeshwar Singh Chandel, Vice-Chancellor thanked the ICAR and the Government for making it possible for undergraduate students to visit and learn from top global research institutes. He said that this opportunity will broaden the horizons of the students and faculty and enhance collaborations with world-class research institutions. Prof. Chandel also congratulated Dr. KK Raina, PI IDP and the whole team for arranging this training programme.
This is the fourth batch of students who have been selected for the international training programme by the university under the NAHEP IDP. Earlier, 42 students attended a month-long programme at AIT, Bangkok while 10 students completed a three-week programme at Western Sydney University, Australia. Additionally, 31 faculty have also got an opportunity to enhance their skills through international training programmes in Australia, Canada, Israel, Germany, Thailand, South Korea and the United Kingdom.
