Nauni varsity ranked 17 in the county in agri-horti, improves 5 positions

Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni has improved its position in the National Ranking of agriculture, and horticulture universities and institutes in the country. The university has secured 17th position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 rankings released by the Ministry of Education, GoI. This is an improvement of 5 places from the previous rankings of agriculture universities done by the ICAR in 2022.

The university secured this position in the NIRF’s newly created category of Agriculture and Allied Sectors. Earlier, agriculture universities were not ranked in the NIRF rankings for the past few years. This year, 152 universities and research institutions and 3 centrally funded institutes/ universities participated in the agriculture and allied category. Additionally, the university has also managed to break into the 101-151 band in the universities category. In the overall category, in which 2478 institutes and 94 centrally funded institutes/ universities participated, UHF Nauni was placed in the 151-200 band in the country.

The Union Minister of State for Education and External Affairs, Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh today released the NIRF Rankings 2023. The NIRF introduced the India Rankings 2023 under thirteen different categories. The NIRF 2023 rankings include the following categories; Overall, Universities, Colleges, Research Institutions, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Dental, Law, Architecture and Planning, Agriculture and Allied Sectors and Innovation. The institutions were judged on parameters like Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practice, Graduation Outcome, Outreach and Inclusivity and Perception with each having several other subheads and assigned marks.

University Vice Chancellor Prof Rajeshwar Singh Chandel said that the rankings were very encouraging for the university as we have improved five places in the National Agriculture rankings from the 22nd rank attained in the last year’s ICAR rankings. The credit for this goes to the university faculty, staff and students.He added that in the past year, the university has made efforts to increase student and faculty exposure through international and national training programmes and initiatives have been made to increase linkages with industry and farmer producers organizations. Several new initiatives have been taken in academics, research and extension which included starting several new academic programmes and research in new areas. Prof. Chandel said that the ranking report will be studied to further improve upon the parameters where the university can perform better next year.
