Pandit Sukh Ram Airlifted To Delhi For Treatment

Shimla: Former Telecom Minister Pandit Sukh Ram, who was admitted at the regional hospital in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, has been airlifted to Delhi for better treatment at AIIMS, a spokesperson said.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur provided the state helicopter for airlifting the former Union minister to Delhi, he added.

Earlier, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur visited the Regional Hospital, Mandi to visit the veteran leader and enquire about his health.

The Chief Minister also spoke to AIIMS Delhi Director Dr Randeep Guleria over the phone about the treatment of Pandit Sukh Ram, reported Press Trust of India.

Sukh Ram, popularly known as Panditji, served as the Minister of Communications and Information Technology in the Narasimha Rao government from 1993 to 1996.
It was during his tenure as the communication minister that the booming Indian telecom sector was first opened up for the private sector that has helped the country to witness a boom in mobile phone technologies.
Sukh Ram was a member of Lok Sabha from the Mandi constituency of Himachal Pradesh. He won the Vidhan Sabha elections five times and the Lok Sabha elections three times.
He also has served as a minister of the Dr YS Parmar cabinet, who was the first chief minister of Himachal Pradesh.
