Dharamshala: At least seven persons were reported dead after a private bus plunged into a deep gorge in Tissa, a remote and high altitute area in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh.
Early information reaching here stated that there were about 16 people on board the bus, out of whom five died on the spot and two died on the way to the hospital.
Rescue and relief teams consisting of police, district administration officials, and medical emergency teams were immediately rushed to the spot as soon as the accident was reported. Before the rescue teams arrived at the spot, local people had gathered to carry out the rescue work.
Eight people are said to be seriously injured. After being rescued from the accident site, they have been shifted to a hospital in Chamba town.
Chief Minister Jairam Thakur and deputy speaker of Himachal stated assembly Hansraj, among others, have expressed grief over the accident. The Chief Minister has announced immediate financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh rupees to be given to the family of the deceased.
