Mandi: From being on the verge of becoming a Covid free state about 2 weeks ago, the number of positive patients has sharply escalated as the 3rd victim felled by virus was cremated here at Sukheti Khad on Saturday after taken all precautions.
Raj Kumar, 52, a resident of Galore, Hamirpur on his return from Delhi on 5th May had tested Covid-19 positive and was under treatment at Radha Swami Hospital, Bhota. On Friday his condition deteriorated and was being shifted to Government Medical College, Mandi when he succumbed to the illness on the way in the ambulance.
Dr Devendra Sharma, medical superintendent of the college said, “the patient had died on the way and his body was kept in the mortuary. Late on Friday night family members of the deceased claimed the body and today morning the cremation was done after taking all necessary precautions.”
By Saturday evening (5 p.m.), the total number of Covid-19 positive cases in Himachal had risen to 77 of which 35 were active. In all, 3 persons have died from disease in the state and 1 lady victim who as staying at Baddi, was shifted to Chandigarh where she died at PGI Chandigarh. There were 4 positive cases who were allowed to migrate out of the state and a total of 35 patients have been cured from the virus.
