Shimla: An unusually early snowfall has landlocked the high altitude valley of Lahaul and many tourists and commuters had been left stranded because of heavy snow on the Rohtang Pass.

The Indian army is carrying out rescue and relief operations with engineers of Border Roads Organisation, who are tasked with maintaining the road, working overtime to re-open the road over the pass.

The Indian Army tweeting about the rescue and relief operation stated that more than 300 people had been rescued fromĀ  Rohtang Tunnel area. They were provided medical aid and refreshments, stated the spokesman.
