Dharamshala: In defiance of the orders of an officer, a serviceman (jawan) at Butcher Post in the Uri sector, close to the Line of Control in Jammu & Kashmir shot dead Major Shikhar Thapa, a native of Kangra, Dharamshala.
According to a report attributed to the police, Major Shikar Thapa, who belonged to the 71 Armoured regiment but was attached with 8 Rashtriya Rifles, reprimanded Naik Kathiresan G for using a mobile phone on night patrol in a sensitive area.
The two were on duty at the Buchar Post in Uri, a sensitive post close to the LoC.
With the phone being snatched from serviceman Naik, the jawan turned around and shot Maj Thapa five times at point blank range, killing him on the spot.
RS Rana, a spokesman of the Gurkha community here stated that Major Thaka was commissioned into the army on 10th December, 2011.
The deceased officer hails from Dharamshala and is the son of Mr Arvinder Kumar Thapa. Major Shikhar Thapa had got married to Mrs Suvidha Thapa in July 2015.
Maj Thapa, who was an avid sportsman, leaves behind him an infant son master Suvir Thapa, who was born on 09 Apr 2017.
