Mandi: Member of the National Commission for Scheduled Caste Dr. Swaraj Vidwan has demanded due compensation from the state for the blind girl who was a victim of gang rape and has raised questions about the working of State Scheduled Caste Commission and Women Commission over the two statutory bodies having failed to take appropriate action in the Bali Chowki gang rape case.
Speaking to the media at a conference call, here today Dr. Swaraj Vidwan said that the central government had increased compensation for rape victim. She said that the government had made a compensation provision of Rs 8.25 lakhs for a gang rape victim out of which 50% would be released to the victim when a case registered. The balance 50% would be provided in two installments, one when a challan is submit in court and second on decision given by court. Dr. Vidwan said that the National SC Commission would help the blind rape victim by all means. She also appealed to local social group and people to join hands in extending help to rape victims.
She also alleged the members of last national SC Commission did not take their work seriously as a result thousand of files were pending before the commission.
