Mandi: Bir Singh, accused of having murdered his elder brother, attempted to commit suicide on Monday.
The accused who was in police custody was being taken to his native village in connection with gathering evidence in the case but Singh attempted to commit suicide by stabbing himself.
The policemen accompanying the accused reacted swiftly and had him shifted to a nearby hospital at Padhar, Mandi.
Police officer Kulbushan Varma disclosed that the injured Bir Singh is in a critical situation and had been shifted to the zonal hospital in Mandi.
A case under 309 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) had been registered and an inquiry against the accompanying police personnel for any lapse in duty had been initiated, said the police officer.
