Dharamshala: Capt Hoshiar Singh Thapa , a 95 year old freedom fighter from Chandmari locality of Dharamshala died last Friday at PGI Chandigarh. Capt Thapa was cremated at Rakkar Sidhbari Shamshan Ghat.
Capt Thapa served in the 2/1st Gorkha Regiment, and later joined Punjab Police and retired as an inspector in 1983. He is survived by his wife Smt Rambha Devi, son H/Capt Bishan Singh Thapa (retd.) and three daughters.
Capt Thapa had donated Rs 1.80 lakh to the Gorkha Association for setting up a trusts to provide stipends to poor, deserving and meritorious students. He was an active participant in almost all the functions organised for the humanitarian cause and was known for delivering very motivating speeches.
