Shimla: SJVN, a central public sector undertaking, through its not for profit arm SJVN Foundation today announced a Rs 6 crore grant for upgrading 6 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in and around project areas in Himachal Pradesh.
To commit the funding, DP Kaushal, GM (P&A), SJVN Ltd on behalf of the Foundation and Rajeshwar Goel, Director Technical Education, Govt of HP, signed an agreement here today, in the presence of Sanjay Gupta, Principal Secretary, GoHP and NL Sharma, Director (Personnel) cum Chairman SJVN Foundation.
The agreement mandates that SJVN will extend a grant of Rs 1 crore to each adopted ITI that would be used for development of infrastructural facilities, which include modern Class Rooms, Library, Workshops, Machinery & Equipment, introduction of new trades and other facilities to improve the qualitative technological demands for the industry.
The 6 ITIs picked for the grant funding are located in River Satluj Basin spread over Kullu and Shimla district where SJVN operates its 1500 MW Nathpa-Jhakri and 412 MW Rampur hydroelectric plants.
“In accordance with the memorandum of understanding, financial assistance of Rs 6 Cr will be provided for up gradation of 6 Govt ITIs (Rs 1 Cr for each), which are ITI Rampur Bushahar, ITI Khadhan, ITI Kumarsain, ITI Nainidhar (all in Shimla District) and ITI Nirmand & ITI Dalash (Kullu District). The Institutional Development Plan for each of these ITIs in and around SJVN project areas will be prepared as per their requirement,” said Kaushal.
Rajeshwar Goel, Director (Technical Education) assured that all efforts would be made to complete the project in time to make the adopted ITIs as ‘Centers of excellence’.
NL Sharma, Chairman SJVN Foundation on the occasion disclosed that support of HP Technical Education department would be required for providing short term skill development training to 500 youth in these ITIs during the current financial year.
“We are willing to extend complete financial assistance which includes a stipend to the trainees,” he said.
Sharma apprised the senior government officials that SJVN under its CSR program works in the verticals of Health & hygiene, Education & Skill Development, Sustainable Development, Infrastructural & community development, Assistance during natural disaster, Promotion of culture & Sports.
“In the last five years, more than 2400 local youth have been trained in the vocational trades of Welder, Electrician, Site accountant, Cutting and tailoring, Hospitality, Bed side attendant ands others. In the area of health, SJVN is operating 14 mobile health vans in the states of HP, Uttrakhand, Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh which have benefitted more than 3 lakh patients besides SJVN Foundation has held 120 health camps which have benefitted more than 30,000 patients. We are also supporting disabled section of society by providing aids and assistive devices to persons with disabilities, said Sharma.
We are also active in construction of community assets like Panchayat Ghar, Mahila Mandal, playgrounds and in last few years more than 200 community assets had been created. Contributing towards Prime Minister Narender Modi’s ambitious Swachh Bharat Abhiyan program, SJVN constructed 2421 toilets for the Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan scheme under very challenging conditions, said Sharma.
Sanjay Gupta, Principal Secretary, GoHP appreciated the adoption of ITIs in rural areas of Himachal Pradesh. “These efforts of SJVN will go long way in achieving the target of meeting the requirements of skilled manpower,” he said.
