Dharamshala: To ensure that two wheel riders of motorcycles and scooters do wear safety helmets, the police here have come out with an innovative campaign that of not providing petrol to the vehicles whose riders are found not wearing the safety gear.
Partnering with the police initiative, all the 12 petrol pump owners in the hill township here have agreed to participate in the public campaign and sensitise the riders about valuing life.
Sanjay Gandhi, police chief of the town and the district disclosed, “With all the pump owners in the town agreeing to the campaign, district police officers have been instructed to initiate meeting with other pump owners in the region to participate in save lives part of a public campaign.”
After issuing a warning, those riders who will not adhere to wearing helmets as demanded by the safe traffic rules, will not be given any petrol by the pumps participating in the campaign,” said Gandhi.
Baijnath sub-division police officer Puran Chand said that pump owners in his area had also decided to join the campaign and would start implementing it from 11th August.
