Delhi: Women journalists have a great role to play for the development of women and children, Maneka Gandhi, union minister for women and child development stated at a workshop of All India Women Journalists.
About 250 women journalist for the country had assembled for the workshop for which the minister delivered the inaugural address at Vigyan Bhawan on 7th June.
Speaking on the occasion Maneka Gandhi said, “the government was taking a lot many measures for development of women and children, but the media, especially the women journalists, had a great role to play in creating awareness about them.”
Speaking about the introduction of the ‘panic button’ facility on all mobile phones, she said that it would be introduced on 1st Jan, 2018 and would be a facility for women in distress as the emergency button would be linked to an GPRS system that would identify the geographical location of any trapped victim.
The ministry was also working towards to make child adoption process easy so that every child could get his her own home. While talking about Anganvadi’s mid day meal scheme, she cautioned that milk and eggs were not allowed in mid-day meals as these food get poisonous with the passage of time which could endanger children’s health.
The minister also shed light on CARA (Central Adoption Resource Authority) , ICDS (Integrated Child Development Schemes), FNB (Food and Nutrition Board), MPV (Mahila Police Volunteers ) and other women and children oriented scheme.
The workshop was organised by ministry of women and child development in collaboration with press information bureau (PIB).
