Kullu: A three day girls school tournament got underway at Government Senior Secondary School, Jalugra in Manikaran valley on Tuesday. More than 25 schools with about 450 girls are participating in the tournament, competing in the games of volleyball, badminton, basketball, kabaddi and kho-kho.
Rainy weather did disrupt some matches on the opening day but as the clouds cleared out the badminton matches between the girls schools of
Chaman versus Bhalyani, Jari versus Shiah and Gadsa versus Satyamohan concluded with the teams from Chaman, Jari and Gadsa winning their matches.
Earlier, chief guest US Sharma, general manager NHPC Parvati project in his inaugural speech stressed upon the importance of sports as an essential activity for a holistic approach to education.
Principal of Jalugra school SD Sharma in his welcome address was grateful to district school sports association and education department for sponsoring the girls sports meet.
Speaking about the deficiency in sporting infrastructure at the school, the principal sought the assistance of NHPC management in contributing towards building of a proper playground for the school children. The tournament concludes on 30th June.
Sonali, a native of Bajaura, Kullu is pursuing a bachelor’s course in journalism from Indraprastha University, Delhi. As part of her course, she is doing an internship with Hill Post
