Shimla: Middle weight (75Kg) boxer Ashish Chaudhary from Sundernagar in Mandi by beating Kuldeep, a boxer from West Bengal, at the 35th National Games final held at Trichur in Kerala has bagged the gold medal.
Chaudhary by being given a 12-07 points in the bout was a clear winner over his rival.
To secure a berth in the finals, Ashish Chaudhary beat Harpal, a boxer from services by 22-14 points.
On beating the services boxer, the national winner commented on his facebook page
“The best day of my life. . . today I beat the national champion Harpal (services) by 14/22. . Hurrreyyy. now i m in final of national games….”
Coach Naresh Verma attributed the win to the hard work by the boxer.
Prior to the outing at the National Games, Ashish in 2013 had won gold at the North India Championship.
Back home at his village Jaral in Mandi district, relatives and friends celebrated the occasion.
Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and HP Boxing Federation president Rajesh Bhandari have commended the achievements of the young boxer.
