Rehabilitation of children in Uttarakhand important: NGO

New Delhi, July 2 (IANS) An NGO working for child rights Tuesday appealed to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna to ensure rehabilitation of hundreds of children who have lost their sense of security along with their homes and families in the flood-ravaged state.

According to Bachpan Bachao Andolan, children have been the worst affected by the recent calamity in Uttarakhand as they have lost their homes and families and their education and health has been hit as well.

The NGO’s founder Kailash Satyarthi said that the disaster would have severely undermined a child’s sense of security and normalcy, pushing him into trauma, distress and in a state of extreme emotional turbulence. Therefore, the government must ensure their capacity building.

The NGO has also extended its support to the Uttarakhand government to tackle any possible incidents of child trafficking or any other exploitation in the wake of the disaster.
