New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today issued notice to the deputy commissioner of police Kulgam district in Jammu and Kashmir over the alleged encroachment of land belonging to a Pandit family, a statement said today.
“A notice has been issued to the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir and they have been asked to submit a report in the matter within two weeks,” a statement from the NHRC said.
The NHRC took cognisance of the land grab after media reports appeared of a Pandit family being assaulted by a group of local people when they visited their apple orchard for sprinkling pesticides, and found their land encroached upon.
The commission observed that the content of the media report, if true, raised a serious issue of the violation of human rights.
