Main Media Center of Kazan Universiade opens

Kazan (Russia), July 4 (IANS) The Main Media Centre (MMC) of the 27th Summer Universiade opened in Kazan Arena Stadium Wednesday, three days before the opening of the sporting gala for world university athletes in this capital of Tatarstan, which is a part of the Russian Federation.

The MMC is one of the most significant Universiade venues in Kazan. It is situated on two floors of the Western Stand in Kazan Arena Stadium and occupies over 6,200 square metres. During the games, the centre will host daily press conferences with organisers, central figures and ambassadors of the Universiade.

The MMC opening was attended by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov. He said that the Kazan Arena Stadium has perfectly fitted into the city space, Xinhua reports.

“This is the project we are truly proud of, as our stadium is virtually the only one in Russia to meet all requirements for stadiums where world football championship matches can be held.”

He said the MMC would work round the clock to provide sports fans with the latest, the most relevant and most interesting information about the Universiade in Kazan.

The 27th Summer Universiade will officially open Saturday and will go on till July 17, with an entry of more than 13,000 athletes, coaches and officials from 170 countries and regions. The Universiade features 351 events in 27 sports.
