New Delhi, July 3 (IANS) India said Wednesday it was “concerned at disconcerting reports” of the Indian embassy in Washington DC being snooped upon by the National Security Agency and would take up the issue with the US.
External affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin, to a query, said India has “seen and studied media reports of our embassy in Washington being in the list of diplomatic missions which were intrusively monitored by US agencies”.
“We are concerned at such disconcerting reports and will certainly raise with US authorities such serious allegations,” he said.
British newspaper The Guardian had reported that the National Security Agency had bugged the Indian embassy, which was among 38 “targets” the US intelligence service.
The report was part of latest revelations provided by fugitive Central Intelligence Agency agent Edward Snowden, who is reportedly in the transit zone of Moscow airport.
