New Delhi, July 2 (IANS) Heritage lighthouses will be developed as tourist destinations, Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi said Tuesday.
The tourism ministry has tied up with the shipping ministry for the project, he said.
In the first phase, of the 15 heritage lighthouses of historical importance, Konhoji Angere lighthouse in Maharashtra will be taken up first for development.
The tourism ministry plans to support construction of a boat jetty and passenger terminal at Konhoji Angere lighthouse.
The Konhoji Angere island is nine nautical miles from the Gateway of India in Mumbai. Once the jetty is built, people can visit the spot.
