BJP, Congress politicising Uttarakhand disaster: Samajwadi Party

Kolkata, July 1 (IANS) The Samajwadi Party Monday accused the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of indulging in politics at the cost of human suffering in disaster-ravaged Uttarakhand.

“The two major parties in the country are trying to politicise the issue. First the BJP sent Narendra Modi and then Rahul Gandhi from the Congress reached there,” Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav told journalists here.

“So many people have died, bodies are lying unattended, the locals have been completely destroyed and these people are indulging in politics over the natural disaster,” he said urging VIPs to refrain from visiting the hill state to allow relief and rescue work to continue in full swing.

He said the security forces which are there to carryout relief and rescue work are forced abandon their primary job to provide security to the visiting VIPs.

He also accused the Congress led central government of denying the status of national disaster to Uttarakhand.

“If the state is accorded the status of a national disaster the responsibility of rescue and rehabilitation will lie with the centre. But it does not want to take up the responsibility,” he claimed.
