New Delhi, June 26 (IANS) Three bookies were arrested for betting on gold, silver and copper rates on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) here, police said Wednesday.
Krishan Aggarwal, 43, Vishal, 33, and Manish Jain, 38, were arrested Tuesday from Chandni Chowk in central Delhi.
“Around Rs.4.70 lakh in cash along with a laptop, a television, calculators, note pads, mobile phones and other incriminating documents showing transactions of crores of rupees were recovered from them,” said Ravindra Yadav, additional commissioner of police (crime branch).
During interrogation, the accused revealed that the MCX betting racket was being run by them for the past two years, police said.
“About 20-25 persons are involved in running illegal betting racket in Kucha Mahajani area in Chandni Chowk,” said the officer.
“The racket involved betting on gold, silver and copper prices and bets of Rs.20-30 crore were placed daily by the gamblers,” said the officer.
