Six killed in bomb attacks in Iraq

Baghdad, June 11 (IANS) Six people were killed and five wounded in separate bomb attacks in northern and eastern Iraq Tuesday, police said.

A roadside bomb struck an Iraqi army patrol in al-Arabi neighbourhood in northern Mosul city, some 400 km north of Baghdad, killing two officers and wounding three soldiers, Xinhua reported.

In a separate incident, Colonel Ali Hussein, chief of a police station, escaped with wounds a roadside bomb explosion near his convoy in the town of Qaiyarra, some 50 km south of Mosul.

Meanwhile, a policeman was killed in a roadside bomb explosion near his car in Qaiyarra.

Mosul was the scene of five car bomb explosions Monday evening that killed up to 40 people and wounded some 120 others.

In Iraq’s eastern province of Diyala, two suspected Al Qaeda militants were killed Tuesday morning by a roadside bomb while trying to plant it on a road near al-Adheim town.

Violence and sporadic high-profile bomb attacks are common in Iraqi cities despite the dramatic decrease in violence since its peak in 2006 and 2007 when the country was engulfed in sectarian killings.
