Singapore launches blood donation website

Singapore, June 8 (IANS) In a first, Singapore Saturday launched a website to make blood donation more convenient, with real-time updates on blood stocks and needs for specific blood types.

The Red Cross Connection site also features a calendar of upcoming blood drives, closest blood bank locations, and information about the blood donation process, Xinhua reported.

Information from the site can be shared on social media networks.

Blood donations in Singapore increased by almost 80 percent over the past decade to 118,000 units in 2012, officials said.

The National Blood Programme is aiming to collect 126,000 units of blood this year.
