Lucknow, June 11 (IANS) The infighting in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will weaken it in the coming Lok Sabha election, the Samajwadi Party said Tuesday.
Party general secretary Naresh Agarwal said the BJP was bitterly divided over making Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi the head of the BJP’s election campaign committee, making him its virtual face in the Lok Sabha battle of 2014.
“Modi may be popular in Gujarat but he certainly does not fit the bill to make it as prime minister of the country,” Agarwal said.
The Rajya Sabha member said the developments in the BJP — Advani’s resignation from party posts following the elevation of Modi as the chief of the next Lok Sabha election campaign committee — would bring down the curtains on communal politics in the country.
