Phnom Penh/New Delhi, June 20 (IANS) India has handed over 40,000 bottles of indelible ink to Cambodia for its national assembly elections next month.
Indian envoy Dinesh K. Patnaik handed over the ink, worth about $900,000, to Cambodia’s National Election Committee (NEC) chairperson Im Suosdey Wednesday, said a statement Thursday.
“As an expression of goodwill and friendly relations with Cambodia, India, the largest democracy in the world, donated the indelible ink” to Cambodia, the statement said. The indelible ink is produced by Mysore Paints and Varnish Ltd, Mysore.
Cambodia has been consistently using indelible ink supplied by the Mysore public sector firm for its elections since 1998.
Thanking India, Im Suosdey recounted the Indian government’s consistent close attention and support for conducting the electoral process in Cambodia.
Patnaik assured all possible cooperation from the Indian government towards further strengthening the democratic process in Cambodia including continuing ongoing training of NEC personnel by the Election Commission of India, the statement said.
