I never planned to become an actor: Channing Tatum

Los Angeles, June 28 (IANS) Actor Channing Tatum, who admits he was never a good student, says he never even planned to become an actor.

Tatum says he struggled to choose from various career options like getting into military, becoming a footballer and veterinarian, before he entered Hollywood.

“To be honest, I didn’t have a college education, so I would have settled on any career that made some sort of money that was respectful. I never planned on being an actor. I definitely never planned on being a model,” femalefirst.co.uk quoted Tatum as saying.

“You think about a lot of things – the military. I never really entertained going into the military, but when you are 18 and you decide not to go to college, you definitely ask a lot of questions,” he said.

During his Hollywood innings, the 33-year-old has enjoyed stratospheric success in Hollywood with movies such as “Magic Mike” and “21 Jump Street”.

He admits he enjoyed working as a vet.

“I always loved animals. I worked at a puppy, kitty nursery in Tampa, Florida, for about a year or something. At that time, I thought maybe I should get a job as a vet tech. I thought maybe I’d go to a tech school for that. I just really don’t like school. I am not good at it – especially at that time in my life,” he added.

However, he was very keen to “figure out” what he must do.

“I wish certain things in football happened differently, but it is what it is. I definitely knew I wasn’t going to go into the pros. It just ran its course for me. But I am happy that I got on with my life. You don’t learn anything by winning all the time,” he added.

Now, the star is happy. He welcomed his first child – daughter Everly, with wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum last month and said he was by her side throughout the labour.

“I was there for the whole thing. That was the most amazing thing I have ever experienced in my life,” he said.
