Crime Branch to probe Manipuri woman’s death

New Delhi, June 1 (IANS) Investigations into the mysterious death of a Manipuri woman were transferred to Delhi Police Crime Branch Saturday, police said Saturday.

Reingamphy, 21, was found dead in her rented accommodation in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar Wednesday morning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) B.S. Jaiswal said that the case has been handed over to the Crime Branch.

Earlier, police were investigating the woman’s death. They had said that it was a case of suicide, but Reingamphy’s family had suspected murder.

Over 500 Manipuri students gathered outside Malviya Nagar police station Saturday and protested against police inaction in the case.

Students Union of the Northeast president Athot alleged that the woman was murdered.

“There was a deep injury mark on her body but police was trying to hush up the matter. Today (Saturday) we protested outside the police station and an officer assured us that a proper inquiry would be conducted in the case,” Athot told IANS.

Police said a panel of three doctors has been constituted to conduct the post-mortem examination on the body again.

The first post-mortem was conducted at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Thursday.
