London, May 9 (IANS) The acting president of wrestling’s international governing body said two men’s weight classes will be replaced by two women’s weight classes so that the sport can retain its place in the Olympics.
World body FILA’S president Nenad Lalovic said the change will be recommended during a congress in Moscow next week, reports Xinhua.
If approved, it would also eliminate one weight class in both men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman.
The change would then be included in FILA’s May 29 presentation to the IOC for provisional status in the 2020 Olympic Games.
There were seven weight classes for men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman at the recent London Games and four for freestyle women.
