Stage set for World 10K run

Bangalore, May 15 (IANS) In all, 22,817 people of varying age and ability will take part in the sixth TCS World 10K Bangalore 2013 run here Sunday, according to promoters Procam International.

Joint MD, Procam International, Vivek B Singh, Race Director Hugh Jones, Medical Director Vivek Jawali of Fortis Hospitals and AFI Technical Delegate David Premnath announced at a Media conference here Wednesday the various measures and facilities put into place to facilitate the smooth conduct of the event.

To ensure that all participants run in the best weather conditions possible, the start times of all races have brought forward by around 40 minutes for this edition.

The first race of the day will be the World 10K Elite race for foreign and Indian men and will be flagged off from inside Kanteerava Stadium at 6.30 am. The 4.3 km Senior Citizens Run, with 712 participants, will then follow at 6.40 am, with the World 10K Elite Race for foreign and Indian women starting at 7.15 am.

The 10K Challenge which includes the Nike College Face-off and the DHL Corporate Challenge will be flagged off at 7.18 am, followed by the Open 10K for 10,652 participants at 7.20 am. In all, 28 colleges will feature in the College Face-off and 88 teams will compete in the Corporate Challenge.

The 4.3 km event for the Champions With Disability with 555 participants, will be flagged off at 8.10 am, with the 10,458 Majja Run participants setting off at 8.40 am after the 400 metres CEO’s Dash race in which 11 corporate head honchos will take part.

There will be a deferred live telecast of the event between 7.00 am and 10.00 am on Star Plus and Doordarshan Sport channels.
