Shimla: Former BJP president Maheshwar Singh, who has floated a regional outfit Himachal Lokhit Party (HLP), presented a dubious stand before the media for the upcoming Mandi bye-election by declaring that his party would not support Congress but would work towards the defeat of BJP.
BJP and Congress are likely to be the only two major parties contesting for the parliament seat which was vacated in January by Virbhadra Singh after being elected chief minister of Himachal Pradesh.
Maheshwar let reporters know at a press conference here, “we are not going to support Congress or any other any party but will certainly oppose the BJP in the Mandi Lok Sabha by-poll.”
In the same breath Maheshwar expressed his displeasure with the Congress government for slow and tardy progress on issues like phone tapping, pulses scam and alleged irregularities by HP Cricket Association.
“We have submitted documentary evidence to the chief minister but despite an assurance, no action has followed, he said.
