New Delhi, May 23 (IANS) Young Indian paddler Manika Batra beat higher-ranked Yui Hamamoto of Japan to enter the girls’ singles semifinals at the IITF Polish Junior Open in Wladyslawowo, Poland Thursday.
Eighteen-year-old Batra, who won a bronze at the Commonwealth Championships here earlier in the month, chalked out a 9-11, 11-9, 11-7, 10-12, 11-3, 12-10 win over the third seed in the quarterfinals.
She meets another Japanese Ayane Morita in the semifinals to be held later Thursday.
The Indian ended the hopes of Germany’s Theresa Kraft 13-11, 11-3, 11-9, 10-12, 11-7 in the round of 16.
