Kolkata, May 4 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Saturday demanded a detailed statement from the central government about the missing vital organs of Sarabjit Singh, the Indian death row prisoner who died in a Lahore hospital a week after a murderous attack in jail.
“I am astonished that vital organs like the intestine, heart, gall bladder and kidneys were missing from the body of Sarabjit Singh. The forensic department of the Civil Hospital in Amritsar has observed this during the second autopsy,” Banerjee said on a social networking site.
“As citizens of the country, we have a right to know the reaction of the government to this report. The central government must come out with the detailed statement on this issue so that every citizen of the world comes to know the truth,” added Banerjee.
A board of Indian doctors who conducted a second post-mortem in Amritsar on Sarabjit said that the vital organs were missing from his body and the assault on him was carried on “with the motive to kill”.
Sarabjit, 49, spent over two decades in a Pakistan prison on charges of being an Indian spy. He was brutally assaulted by fellow prisoners with bricks and sharp-edged weapons in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail April 26.
He was declared dead in Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital early Thursday.
