New Delhi, May 17 (IANS) India generates 7.9 million tonnes of hazardous waste every year with the highest amount generated by Maharashtra, the environment ministry said Friday.
As per the information furnished by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Maharashtra (22.84 percent), Gujarat (22.68 percent) and Andhra Pradesh (13.75 percent) are the top three hazardous waste generating states in the country followed by Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
These seven states together are generating about 82 percent of the country’s total hazardous wastes.
