Guerrilla killed in Kashmir gunfight

Srinagar: A guerrilla was killed in a gunfight between security forces and militants in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district Friday, police said.

A senior police officer told that troopers of the counter-insurgency Rashtriya Riles, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police surrounded the Mooldari Upper Rajwar forest area in Kupwara district, 85 kilometres from here, on specific information about the presence of a group of militants.

“The surrounded militants opened fire on security forces, triggering an encounter. One militant was killed in the encounter. Firing has stopped, but searches are still on,” the officer said.
