Garage.Inc: Ideal for non-vegetarians, American cuisine lovers

Garage Inc. RestaurantNew Delhi, May 26 (IANS) One may not be open to the idea of waking up and comfortably strolling inside a restaurants in pyjamas, but Garage Inc. Restaurants expect you to do exactly that! Completely chilled out, lively, the eatery is fun place for carnivores, especially who love American cuisine.

In sync with the name, one can notice tyres, cycles’ wheels and car number plates as part of the interiors. A nice cosy place, it offers a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and anyone and everyone would love to unwind at the energetic place.

Located in the heart of Hauz Khas Village, it is co-owned by Anisha Malhotra, a graduate from Institute of Hotel Management, Aurangabad, who is also the head chef at the eating outlet, and her husband Nitin Malhotra.

Anisha says the idea came to them after realising that not too many eateries were specialising in American cuisine.

Talking about the inspiration, Anisha said: “The idea was to open an American-style eating outlet. We wanted to do a concept, which is rustic and down to earth. We want people to visit us in whatever they are comfortable in.”

She added: “The USP of the place is food.”

First in her family to start the business, Anisha entered the food business with the experience of working with hotel chains like The Kefi Restaurant – Taj Club House, Chennai, and was part of the hospitality team at the 15th Asian Games at Doha and the Commonwealth Games-2010 in Delhi.

It certainly came in handy for Anisha, who rustles up her own recipes like Garage special pasta and says people prefer food over drinks at her place.

Furnished with comfortable wooden furniture, couches, and with peppy music in the background, the place starts welcoming people from 12 noon and entertains them till 1 a.m.

As the evening progresses, footfalls go up, says Anisha.

With a seating capacity of 48 people, inclusive smoking area, which is a small, narrow balcony, a team of about 16 people, including six chefs who woo the taste buds of foodies by serving up exotic dishes and some of the must have food items are barbecued meat orgy and chicken burgers.

Menu is a delight for non-vegetarians and they can start with chilly fried beef/chicken, pork or cajun fried chicken. But nothing beats the Louisiana killer shrimps, which are made with garlic, butter, chilly with fresh herbs and pepper sprinkled over them. The dish takes 12-15 minutes to get served.

The main course includes spaghetti and meatballs; and a rice dish called Jambalaya, which is available for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.

Going back to their specialty meat orgy, an assortment of beef, pork, Jimmy jerk chicken and sausages, it is served with mashed potatoes, salad and gravy.

One must try chicken burger, typically American one. Unlike the small, simple burgers, this one is big with juicy chicken patty sitting between the two layers of bread. It is bland, but those who love American burgers will enjoy the distinct flavours. It is served with french fries. Let me warn you, don’t take it as a snack as it is quite heavy and filling enough to be a proper meal.

Wash down these meat delights with non-alcoholic drinks like fresh lemon soda, milk shakes, fresh apple juice and cold coffee to alcoholic ones like Cosmopolitan, fat mango, dirty bastards and mohitos, and beers and whisky.

In case you have any complaints or grievances, approach Anisha and Nitin, who makes it a point to attend the customers personally and make them comfortable.
