Paris, May 1 (IANS/EFE) The Elysee Palace will put 12,000 bottles from its wine cellar up for bids this week at the Drouot auction house in Paris in order to substitute them with more modest wines, with a 1990 Pomerol Petrus valued at 2,200 euros (about $2,800) having the highest starting price.
The public sale, entrusted to the Kapandji Morhange firm of auctioneers, which operates under the umbrella of the Drouot, will offer a great variety of wines from different regions of France, among which Bordeaux and Burgundy predominate, the auction house said in a communique.
The estimated value of each bottle is between 15 and the 2,200 euros (between $19 and the $2,800) that has been estimated for the Bordeaux vintage Pomerol Petrus 1990, the most expensive wine of the lot.
The purpose of the operation is to “allow a renewal of the Elysee wine cellar through self-financing”, the Drouot said.
