Delhi CM ask Haryana to release water

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today met Union Water Resources Minister Harish Rawat over Congress-ruled Haryana not releasing water to capital through the Munak canal for which Delhi paid Rs.400 crore.

“It is very disappointing that we paid for the canal and do not get the water,” Dikshit told after attending the fifth meeting of the Upper Yamuna River Committee Tuesday and chaired by Rawat.

The meeting was attended by chief ministers of Delhi and Haryana and irrigation ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda told Rawat that the state does not have sufficient water to release to Delhi since it is dependent on Rajasthan.

“I requested the minister to give priority to Delhi since its ever increasing population needs water,” Dikshit told.
