Islamabad, May 11 (IANS) At least 10 people were killed and 50 injured Saturday in a huge explosion that tore through a group of voters waiting close to a polling station in Karachi, a media report said.
The deafening blast took place in Karachi’s Quaidabad area, DawnNews reported.
The explosion occurred near the polling station of Quaidabad.
The huge explosion damaged the windowpanes of several buildings and destroyed eight shops.
Some of the injured were in critical condition, said sources with Jinnah Hospital where the wounded were taken.
The blast took place at about 10 a.m. when a group of supporters of Awami National Party (ANP) were gathering near the polling station, reported Xinhua citing media reports.
They gathered there to vote for ANP candidate Aman Ullah.
Aman Ullah was safe.
The bomb was hidden inside a car parked near the polling station and was detonated through a time device, said police.
No group has as yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
