Youth resists woman’s robbing, shot in Delhi

New Delhi, April 11 (IANS) A 21-year-old youth was fired at by a gang of robbers when he tried to resist their attempt to loot jewellery from a woman here Thursday, police said.

“Sandeep Singh received a bullet injury in his back and was rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger,” a police officer said.

The incident took place around 6 a.m. when Kalyaani, 27, a resident of west Delhi’s Mahavir Encalve, was on a morning walk.

“As soon as the woman reached near the Palam flyover three people on a motorbike stopped her and started threatening her at a gun point. They asked her to hand over her jewellery to them,” the officer added.

Sandeep, who saw this while travelling in a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus, stepped down and tried to foil the snatching bid.

“The robbers opened fire at Sandeep and fled with a gold chain and some other jewellery,” the officer said.
