Sarno (Italy), April 9 (IANS) India’s Kush Maini and Jehan Daruvala finished second and third in their respective categories in the second round of the World Karting Championships here.
Bangalore-based Maini, by virtue of his second place finish, added 30 points and another 10 for the third place in the pre-finals to take his tally to 100, while leader Martinez Eliseo trails by 27.
The final Sunday was a very close race with 34 Karts taking part and Maini, starting third on the grid, got off to a very good start and was in second place right behind Rasmus Lindh of Sweden.
Maini and Lindh swapped lead with the Indian ahead going into the last corner, but slipped to third when Marselia of Italy, who had slipped into the second place, made a move. It pushed Maini wide and also slowed Marselia.
This gave Lindh the chance to slip into the lead and the Indian had to be content with second place and ahead of Italy’s Giuseppe Fusco.
Meanwhile, Mumbai-based Daruvala, competing in the Junior KF category, finished third behind Russians Nikita Mazepin and Nikita Sitnikov after gaining a place following the relegation of winner Leonardo Chicks to 10th place due to a technical infringement.
