Tiger cub killed in Maharashtra

Nagpur, April 15 (IANS) A tiger cub was killed and another injured Monday after they were run over by a passenger train, around 60 km from here, forest officials said.

The cubs came under a passenger train that runs between two neighbouring districts Gondia and Chandrapur, an official said.

The cubs might have strayed from the Tadoba Forest, a tiger reserve in the neighbouring Chandrapur district, 160 km from here, another official said.

Animal activists of the region have repeatedly pointed to the threat to tigers and other wild animals in the region owing to the railway line. They also said that several animals have been hurt when they strayed here in the past.
